'Coastal niño' expected to gradually weaken in three weeks

The climatic phenomenon known as "Coastal niño" would begin to weaken by the end of April, with the change of season and the arrival of a cold Kelvin wave to the north coast of Peru.
"A change of season always contributes to weakening this type of events. And everything indicates that with the autumn, the situation would tend to become normal gradually over the next two or three weeks," explained Javier Gaviola, president of Instituto del Mar del Peru (IMARPE).
