The Irish South and West Fish Producer's Organisation Ltd. (IS&WFPO) was established in 1995. The organisation represents fishermen in the south and west coast of Ireland and has membership of primarily whitefish vessels ranging from 12m to 30m. The organisational structure consists of a Chairman, Secretary, Manager and a Board of Directors. The Board consists of 11 Directors who represent the members from the different areas of operation.
Aims and Objectives: Fish Producers Organisation (POs) were originally devised as a means of encouraging implementation of market stability mechanisms with the EU. However, this is not their sole function where the overall purpose of the POs is to:
improve and guarantee where possible a fair income to producers
regulate the market in order to adjust supply to market requirement
promote the application of common marketing standards
