We have invested in Canadian-style harvest barges where fish are humanely slaughtered on the farm and transported to the plant in a closed-containment vessel. This system eliminates the need for recirculating water into the marine environment along the vessel routes, thereby minimizing the risk of transporting viruses like infectious salmon anemia between farming and processing areas.
New strictly enforced sanitary and bio-security measures were put in place throughout the production chain to safeguard against the risk of disease to our fish.
The smolt (or baby salmon) used in the cyclical stocking of sites are produced in land-based, controlled hatcheries (no lakes or estuaries). This allows for the effective control of disease, superior environmental performance and healthy, happy fish.
