In 2009, on June 29, Fisherman's Day, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva signed Law No. 11,958. It was then created the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture in Brazil, given the historical desire of fishermen and fish farmers in the country.
The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture is an organ of direct federal administration, and among the various tasks defined in the Decree 6.972/09, is responsible for deployment of a national fisheries and aquaculture, making this economic activity in a sustainable source of employment, income and wealth.
