The administration and regulation of fishing goes back to 1964, when it is created, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. The address was in charge of a small Department of Fisheries.

Subsequently, in 1968, created the Agricultural and Livestock Service, SAG's national director in charge of Emiliano Ortega, which depended on a number of agencies involved in agriculture. In its organizational structure included the Fisheries Division, which had the responsibility to regulate all fishing activities in the country.

During the government of President Michelle Bachelet President office was initially played by Carlos Hernandez Salas, until June 2007 and currently Hit by Jorge Santibañez.
