This market reports focuses on harvests of seabream, seabass and turbot in Spain. We also highlight harvests, prices, markets, imports and exports.

Turbot (Psetta maxima), European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax), gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata)

Production

In the last fortnight incoming volumes of turbot declined and those of seabream and seabass declined.

Supplies of seabream dropped by 2% during week 18. We must add 44% of week 17. Compared with the average last year, there has been a drop of 27%. Compared with the same fortnight last year there has been a drop of 43%.

The most important origins of seabream were Murcia with 20%, Guipúzcoa with 16%, Alicante and Turkey with 14% each and Huelva and with 10%.

Supplies of seabass increased by 9% in week 18, alter the drop of 50% of week 17. therefore, supplies of the last fortnight declined by 37%. Compared with the same fortnight last year, they were down 61%.

Greece was the leader again with 45%. It was followed by Huelva with 17%, Valencia with 16% and France with 11%. France and Greece covered all imports.

Supplies of turbot increased by 26% during week 18, it has been the week with the highest volumes of supplies so far this year. During week 17, there was a rise of 14%, record volumen of supplies through that week. Incoming volumes of the last fortnight rose by 70% from the average registered last year and 93% on those of the same week in 2012.

The origins of turbot were the same as those registered last fortnight: Pontevedra with 27%, Guipúzcoa, La Coruña and Holland with 24% each.

Prices

The prices of seabream continued increasing in small and medium sizes also during weeks 18 and 17, compared with the previous one. That of large samples remained stable.

Prices of seabass increased for the small sizes and declined in the case of medium and large sizes.

The prices of turbot remained stable, compared with those of the previous fortnight.
