The Largest Tuna Fleet in Latin America

  (MEXICO, 4/22/2013)

PINSA Group (Pescados Industrializados S.A. de C.V.) is considered as one of the largest and most important manufacturers of canned tuna in the Latin American tuna industry. The company's infrastructure, self-sufficiency in all its processes and the involvement of its brands in the national market makes PINSA the leading tuna brand in Mexico.

The Group consists of three companies: PINSA, Pesca Azteca and Mazindustrial.

PINSA is the processing and marketing branch of the group, it has 13 production lines, refrigerators for raw material with a storage capacity of 21,000 tons and finished product warehouses for 2 million boxes.

One of the subsidiaries of the PINSA Group is Pesca Azteca , the largest fleet in the eastern Pacific Ocean (EPO) for the catch of Yellowfin Tuna. Its annual harvesting capacity of 75,000 tons.

Pesca Azteca has 20 modern fishing vessels that operate with satellites with the most sophisticated and advanced electronic equipment for maritime communication. Each vessel has an helicopter that searches for schools of tuna and, in addition, carries on board a net of over 2 kilometres long. The fishing method used is purse seine with a capacity between 350 and 1,200 tons per trip.

Mazindustrial is responsible for processing PINSA's by-products and for producing fish meal which is used mainly for the manufacture of pet food for the agricultural industry.

PINSA manufactures canned yellowfin tuna in different varieties; the company has an installed capacity to process approximately three hundred metric tons of fish daily, the equivalent to 1,800,00 cans.

With high precision filling machines, the exact portion is placed in the can. In this part of the process the additional ingredients are added, such as salad, jalapeno chilli and Mexican flavour.

PINSA sells its products through its brands El Dorado, Mazatún and Dolores; the latter two brands have recently launched a line of tuna with a new packaging. These handy ready-to-serve pouches include tuna salad, tuna with vegetables, tuna steak in oil and in water.
