COMPANY OF THE WEEK: Carmanah Launches New Solar Marine Lantern

  (CANADA, 4/20/2012)

Carmanah Technologies Corporation’s (Public: TSX: CMH) (Pink Sheets: CMHXF) best-selling M650 solar marine lantern is now available with GPS-synchronized flash.

GPS-synchronized flash allows any number of M650 GPS lanterns to flash in unison with atomic precision. Like Carmanah’s larger GPS-equipped solar marine lanterns, the M650 GPS uses the precise timing signal of GPS satellites to coordinate its flash pattern with other GPS-equipped lanterns, allowing a mix of different lantern models to flash together in unison.

Carmanah’s CEO, Bruce Cousins, is pleased with the addition of the M650 lantern to the suite of GPS synchronized flash equipped self-contained lanterns.

“Synchronized flashing is very effective in overcoming background shore lighting and in clearly marking the boundaries of channels, river mouths, marina entrances, and extended structures such as aquaculture floats or breakwaters, making marine navigation safer and easier,” explains Cousins.

“The M650 GPS lantern’s compact size, low maintenance design, extreme durability and GPS capability, combined with its affordable pricing makes it an ideal choice for all types of aids-to-navigation and hazard marking applications”, added Cousins.

The M650 GPS lantern is marketed and distributed globally under the Carmanah/Sabik Marine brand, a joint initiative of Carmanah Technologies Corporation and Sabik Oy, a Finnish based marine, traffic and rail signaling company.

Based on Carmanah’s industry-proven and highly successful M650 lantern, the compact M650 GPS lantern provided up to 4 nautical miles of visibility and produces up to 44 candela of light output (green).

Thanks to its new state-of-the-art GPS receiver, the M650 GPS lantern acquires satellite signals with unprecedented speed, enabling the M650 GPS lantern to begin synchronized flashing sooner than ever.

The ground-breaking on-board user interface (OBUI) inside the lantern allows easy and intuitive verification of GPS satellite lock status and other settings.

The new GPS receiver features extremely low power consumption, enabling the M650 GPS to more efficiently produce light from available solar energy. The M650 GPS is completely self-contained with no externally mounted equipment or antennas to break or corrode.

By equipping the M650 lantern with synchronized flashing, Carmanah broadens the market for this proven high-performing product into new applications.

Additionally, the M650 GPS lantern can now satisfy US Coast Guard’s PATON Part 67 regulation that calls for unison flashing where multiple lanterns mark an obstruction.
