Venezuela and Iran sealed several bilateral strategic agreements in fisheries and shrimp farming matters during the recent official visit of the Venezuelan President to the Asian country.
As part of those alliances, the Iranian government committed to equip Venezuela with a fish information gathering system to assist in the recovery of 14 domestic shrimp breeding farms now abandoned.
According to the president of Socialist Fisheries and Aquaculture Institute (INSOPESCA), Gilberto Gimenez, who was part of the committee that visited countries in Asia and Europe, the new information system will facilitate and optimise the collection of data on national seafood production.
Thanks to this Iranian technology, seafood landings in ports will be quantified more accurately, which will increase the levels of rapidity and effectiveness when tallying the figures, Gimenez explained.
In addition, the rescue of 14 shrimp breeding farms located in the states of Falcon, Sucre and Zulia will commence.
Some USD 27 million will be allocated to this project, in an effort to reclaim the infrastructure and guarantee the incorporation of a workforce, La Nacion reports.
Similarly, the transfer of knowledge and experiences is planned on part of Iranian technicians for training courses to be taken by Venezuelan personnel.
