Global agreement expands ISA vaccine distribution
CHILE

Advanced BioNutrition Corp. (ABN), United States, and the laboratory Centrovet of Chile, signed a global agreement to extend the administration of oral vaccine against infectious salmon anaemia virus (ISA).
This vaccine is given together with commercial salmon feed through a system patented by the U.S. company.
"It is hoped that the use of this vaccine, along with a proper disease control, will significantly help to reduce losses due to pathogen ISA," said Centrovet CEO, David Farcas.
For his part, Larry Loehr, president of ABN management technologies, said that this agreement is very important for both companies because "it is ABN first global technology expansion and the first venture outside of Chile for Centrovet ".
So far, this system is able to reduce losses to less than 30 per cent.
The vaccine can be administered orally or by injection into the immature salmon.
The experts explain that it is necessary to apply booster dose during the development and maturation of the specimen.
In a first step, Centrovet scientists developed antibodies specific against ISA virus. Later, documented the reduction in the protection offered by the primary vaccine and precisely determined the proper time to apply the vaccine in developing salmon.
Then, the scheme was incorporated into the general vaccination program for fish farmers in Chile.
Centrovet said the technology and processes developed by ABN management can be applied not only in this South American country but also in Norway, the Faroe Islands, Scotland, USA and Canada.
ABN system can be used in water supply to administer probiotics, omega-3 oils, vitamins, carotenoids, enzymes and amino acids.
"This shows that ABN scientists have a proactive methodology. They are dedicated to solving specific customer problems regarding protection, stabilization and management of active ingredients in vaccines, feed, food and seeds," said Loehr.
Centrovet is a research and development firm that specializes in pharmaceutical and veterinary applications. Based in Santiago, it employs 110 veterinarians, chemists and other scientists.
Advanced BioNutrition Corporation is headquartered in Columbia, and specializes in research and development.
