The President of Grupo Marítimo Industrial (Grupomar), Antonio Suarez, announced that Astillero Armon is to start building another tuna vessel, the third one commissioned by his company.
The entrepreneur also mentioned the fact that two other such ships have been ordered by the company belonging to "a friend of his," referring to the group Pinsa (Pesca Azteca).
Of the nine deep sea tuna vessels that will be built by the shipyard from Gijon, seven are for Antonio Suarez, three for Grupomar and four for Pinsa.
In addition, two other boats were commissioned by the Basque company Albacora.
"There´s nothing else I can do," Suarez said after receiving a silver medal from the Prince and Princess of Asturias and referring to the requests for building fishing boats, reported La Nueva España.
The freezer tuna vessels will be 80 meters long and the delivery deadline of each unit will range between 18 and 24 months.
Suarez stressed the new ship will be the third one for his group. "They are very similar fishing boats, of about USD 25 million each."
It is "good news" because it ensures a workload at the shipyard in Gijon for more than two and a half years, the agency Europa Press reported.
