Minister confirms shrimp exports to Brazilian market

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Nation (Minagri), Norberto Yauhar, reassured that "the export of Argentinean shrimp (Pleoticus muelleri) that is frozen on land to Brazil has been absolutely normalised."

The Argentinean minister stressed the importance of reopening the Brazilian market, as in the first stage it is expected to send several thousand tonnes of domestic shrimp.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of Foreign Trade, Beatriz Paglieri, also stressed that there is ample room for exporting the crustacean.

"The barriers have been lifted and the pending licenses of companies that are already enabled have been released," she said.

The agreement signed by Yauhar and the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MPA) in Brazil, Marcelo Crivella, emphasizes that the reference price on which to work is a value per tonne above USD 14 for the L1 size and USD 12 for L3 (minimum size to be allowed to export to the neighboring country).

In addition, processed shrimp on land will have a special treatment with values that are higher than USD 20 a tonne, the official article indicates.

The Secretariat of Foreign Trade stated that the opinion of the MPA -- dated 31 July -- in reference to the absence of health risks as to the entry of Argentinean shrimp continues in force.

"The achievement of the income from the domestic product to the Brazilian market takes place after the tests of the respective animal health risk proved satisfactory," it was added.

Exporters from Argentina "must complete the processing of an international health certificate endorsed by the Argentinean health authority," added the authority.
