Florianópolis was the chosen place by a delegation of fishing entrepreneurs and officials from Chubut to perform the first rounds of negotiations organized as part of the Fishing Sector Trade Mission to the Federative Republic of Brazil.
The group, led by the provincial governor Martin Buzzi, is visiting Brazil to find new markets for fishery products from the Patagonian province.
The delegation will also visit Sao Paulo and Brasilia.
In Florianópolis, fisheries executives from Chubut met with Brazilian importers and buyers of the following companies in the state of Santa Catarina: Komlog Importacao Ltd, Supermercados Emperatriz, Full Comex Imp. Exp. Ltda., Vitalmar Com.Ind. de Pescados Ltda., Segalas Alimentos Ltda, Grimes e Pereira Ltda., Anjo Pesca Ind. e Com. De Pescados Ltda., Unno Trade Ltda. and Blaze Comercio Exterior Ltda.
The most requested products by buyers were shrimo, hake and golden kingklip, in all their varieties, as it was informed by the newspaper Jornada.
Governor Buzzi also met with his counterpart from Santa Catarina, Raimundo Colombo, with whom he discussed various topics such as the possibility of expanding fishing trade links between Chubut and the Brazilian state.
The undersecretary of Fisheries of Chubut, Hugo Stecconi, a member of the mission, expressed as to this first round of negotiations: "We have potential, which is what is being presented here and what producers have offered as part of this mission. We expect private parties can carry out their task given the goal the State is promoting with this round of discussions."
With regard to the Brazilian market opening for shrimp from Chubut, Stecconi pointed out: "We are very hopeful that this is a market that can recover well, it is here to stay. So, this is obviously creating a huge expectation and great enthusiasm is shown by the delegation from Argentina."
"This has just started, negotiations will begin and the seeds will be sowing. Last year Brazil was a major buyer of hake, so the possibility of maintaining this link is important for all of our producers," the Undersecretary of Chubut added.
Meanwhile, Buzzi stressed that the development of this market would mean a strong income for Chubut from fish exports, which has been estimated to be about USD 150 million, El Diario de Madryn reported.
Meanwhile, the minister of Production of Chubut, Eduardo Arzani commented that the agenda of this mission "was jointly prepared with the Foreign Ministry of Argentina and the consulates general in Santa Catarina and Sao Paulo."
And he said that they intend to meet with importers, wholesalers and supermarket entrepreneurs.
