A professional team from the Ministry of Production (Produce) and Sanipes met with advisor, technicians and representatives of the Federation of Integration and Unification of Artisanal Fishermen of Peru (Fiupap) and people linked to the Fishing Cooperative of Shipowners, Craft Fishermen and Callao Shellfish Extractors to analyze alternatives of their products`commercialization.
The meeting was held at the request of the interested parties, who depend financially on a concession for the cultivation of scallops (Argopecten purpuratus).
This trade union was notified on December 26 that the reclassification process submitted for its concession is not proceeding, so, different alternatives were discussed to market the scallops.
An agreement was reached for the reinstallation of the scallops in another area for its purification and subsequent commercialization. This process deadline is in a term of 60 days, but in case there is the necessary technical support, it could be done in a shorter period.
It was stressed by the Ministry of Production and Sanipes that they work to ensure mariculture as a sustainable economic activity, generate employment and protect the consumer health, and reafirmed their commitment to provide the technical facilities that allow the reinstallation of the resource.
