The conjunction of both fairs will bring together the most complete and transversal offer for professionals of food, gastronomy and hospitality equipment in more than 100,000 m2. In addition, the organizers hope to gather more than 150,000 visitors.

The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment, Isabel García Tejerina, who has chaired the event, stressed that "Alimentaria is a recognized brand throughout the world. For 42 years this great world event has been the most extraordinary showcase for the food and beverage industry that has been consolidated itself as an incentive for the entire sector and a vector of anticipation of the future in food, it has gained undoubted prestige and the category of reference for all professionals".

García Tejerina has highlighted MAPAMA's support to the show: "We are with Alimentaria 2018 and we are grateful that it allows us to promote, develop and achieve the ambition that we as Government have for the Spanish food sector. We share objectives with Alimentaria, we know that it is time impulse and showcase to show how good we are in Spain in the food sector. " For the Minister, "together we are stronger and we represent much better a modern and powerful sector that has great potential to continue growing." Alimentaria 2018 will be a step forward in the image and internationalization of the Spain brand, to which the food sector So much contributes."

For his part, the president of Alimentaria and Fira from Barcelona, Josep Lluís Bonet, has confirmed that "food is the first industrial sector in the country, and in Alimentaria it has the opportunity to present itself to the world with bastions such as quality, excellence of its raw material and innovation, together with a gastronomy that enjoys great international prestige.

In this regard, the general director of Alimentaria Exhibitions, José Antonio Valls, said that "Alimentaria is the largest exhibition platform of the Spanish food industry, the show that represents the global nature of its transversal interests and the specificities of each one. of its vertical sub-sectors" and added that the event "has accompanied the sector in its process of internationalization, innovation and competitiveness".

Enhance the exit to the outside

Alimentaria 2018 focuses on facilitating contact among its exhibiting companies and international buyers, from more than 150 countries. Although Europe will continue to be the main area of origin for visitors to the fair (mainly from Italy, France, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Germany), a significant increase in representatives of areas of great strategic interest for the Spanish market is expected, such as North America (United States, Mexico and Canada), Asia (with China at the front, although with a prominent presence of India, South Korea, Thailand or Japan) and Latin America (especially from Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Panama).

To implement its internationalization strategy, Alimentaria has the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment (MAPAMA) and the ICEX. It has also signed agreements with the Spanish Federation of Food and Beverage Industries (FIAB), the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV), the Spanish Hospitality Federation (FEHR), the Spanish Dulce Association (Produlce) and the Association of Companies. of the Great Consumption (AECOC), among others.

In order to promote exports, the fair has increased investment in its Hosted Buyers program to invite 800 key international buyers - of which more than half will go to Alimentaria for the first time -, prioritizing importers and large operators of the distribution and the Horeca channel. The organization foresees that these professionals, along with other visitors with purchasing power, participate in some 12,500 meetings with the exhibiting firms. Many of these business meetings will be scheduled within the Food & Drink Business Meetings (organized by FIAB), which will bring together exhibitors with buyers from outside Europe; and the Intervin Business Meetings, which will allow wineries to meet with about 300 wine importers, distributors and operators.

The general director of the Spanish Federation of Food and Beverage Industries (FIAB), Mauricio García de Quevedo, has shown his support for Alimentaria: "We went to this edition at a great time for the food and beverage industry in Spain, where we want to show the world the excellence of the sector in the best possible showcase".

Strong support from CCAA, Provincial Councils and sector associations
According to MAPAMA data, 98 per cent of Spanish food companies have fewer than 50 employees, so for many of these it is essential to have institutional support for their promotion. In this sense, the participation in Alimentaria 2018 stands out in the form of grouped stands of the majority of autonomous communities (Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Catalonia, Valencian Community, Euskadi, Extremadura , Galicia, La Rioja, Madrid and Navarra), as well as Provincial Councils (Almería, Ávila, Cádiz, Huelva and Málaga) and the Cabildo de Gran Canaria. The space contracted by these institutions will reach 13,000 m2. For its part, the main Spanish associations from different sectors will participate in the event, such as Anafric, Fecic, Interporc, Interovic and Provacuno (Intercarn) and ANFACO (Expoconser).
