The Women's Fisheries Network is honored to have Julia Child as our feature speaker to kick-off the Fall 2001 Dinner Meeting Series as well as to continue our celebration of WFN's 15th Anniversary. This dinner event will be held at The Back Eddy Restaurant in Westport, Massachusetts. Chef/Owner of The Back Eddy and The East Coast Grill, Chris Schlesinger is a close colleague of Julia's and has prepared a wonderful assortment of dishes using local produce and seafood all served overlooking the beautiful Westport River. More information about Chris and The Back Eddy can been viewed on www.thebackeddy.com.

Julia has been a WFN Member for over a decade. She was instrumental in organizing many Fish Expo workshops featuring cooking demonstrations between the Women's Fisheries Network and Women's Culinary Guild. She worked with WFN past presidents Pat Gerrior and Ruth Levy on seminars entitled "Making the Most of Mackerel and "Skate to Plate." WFN members will have the opportunity to stroll down memory lane with Julia and pictures of these events will be on display in the WFN "Brag Book."

Born in Pasadena, California, Julia's East Coast connection began with her attending Smith College. She later earned critical acclaim with her classic cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking (1961, 1970) and later went on to host several award-winning cooking series on PBS television network, where she became known for her exuberant personality and flamboyant style in preparing food. Julia wrote a number of other cookbooks, including The French Chef Cookbook (1968), and The Way to Cook (1989), and co-authored Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home with Jacques Pepin (1999). Her most recent publication is Julia's Cooking Wisdom: Essential Techniques and Recipes from a Lifetime of Cooking (2000).

We hope you will join us for this special event which is one of Julia Child's last appearances before she returns to her native California. WFN members and guest are encouraged to bring their favorite Julia Child cookbook for signing!
