IMARPE initiated anchovy stock asssessment to define first fishing season

The Institute of the Sea of ??Peru(IMARPE) is carrying out a hydroacoustic survey to estimate the anchovy biomass (Engraulis ringens), a study that will allow to determine the volume of the allowable catch and the start of the first fishing season 2018.
"This evaluation is based on the best available scientific information and is the basis for the allocation of the anchovy quota (in the north-central zone) in each season. Their results will be reported in a technical report that will later be sent to PRODUCE," said the Minister of Production, Lieneke Schol.

The commercial tarakihi (Nemadactylus macropterus) catch in the fisheries areas off the east coast of the North and South Islands is to be reduced by 20 per cent in an effort to rebuild the depleted stock.
