IN BRIEF - Serafin Fishery Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Anchovies in Salmon Dip and Whitefish Dip

Friday, August 14, 2020

Serafin Fishery is recalling its 8-ounce containers of Salmon Dip and Whitefish Dip because they may contain undeclared anchovies, eggs, milk and soy. People who have allergies to anchovies, eggs, milk and soy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled Salmon Dip and Whitefish Dips were distributed locally in retail stores.  The product comes in an 8-ounce, clear plastic package marked with lot #729 and lot #807 on the top and with expiration dates of August 12, 2020 and August 24, 2020 on the label.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered during an inspection conducted by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development that the products’ labeling did not list all of the products’ ingredients. Production of the product has been suspended until FDA and the company are certain that the problem has been corrected.

IN BRIEF - Indonesia halts exports from seafood producer after virus tests

Monday, September 21, 2020

JAKARTA - Indonesia has suspended exports from an Indonesian seafood company PT Putri Indah into China after its frozen fish products tested positive for the coronavirus, the country's fisheries ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

The ministry said that an investigation was underway and that the suspension would only apply to PT Putri Indah "whereas the others can still do export activities as usual."

The virus was detected on the outermost side of the package, not on the fish, the ministry said.

The seven-day suspension began on Friday, it said.

A person in charge of marketing, answering a number listed for PT Putri Indah, hung up the phone without replying.

China's General Administration of Customs said on Friday that it would stop accepting import applications from PT Putri Indah for one week after a batch of frozen hairtail fish from the company tested positive for the coronavirus.

China customs said on Sept. 11 it would halt imports from companies for a week if their frozen products tested positive a first or second time for the coronavirus.

Friday, September 18, 2020

Considers inadmissible the question raised by the super-regulator as it is an administrative and non-judicial body, which are the ones that can present the consultations

That a royal decree that pursues the liberalization of port stowage leaves the door open to impose the mandatory subrogation of the former workers of the defunct Sagep (public limited companies for the management of port workers) is something that continues to screech at the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC). In fact, it had opened a file in 2017, suspecting that giving priority to these workers could imply a restriction on free competition.
