At the limit of the Exclusive Economic Zone, the actions of the captains of at least three Argentine fishing vessels allowed, together with the Argentine Naval Prefecture, this weekend to cast out a large group of Chinese powerful vessels that fished squid absolutely illegally within of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) Argentina.

Since Thursday, around 100 jiggers of Chinese origin have caught a significant amount of tons of squid illegally daily, just 5 or 6 miles inland from the continental shelf and 196 miles from the Argentine coast.

The captains of the Mar del Plata ships Beagle I, Don Pedro and Stella Maris I, which allowed them to warn - once again - the illegal operation, denounce the situation to the Argentine National Prefecture and literally throw at least part of the Asian jiggers out of the 200 miles that divides the Argentine fishing zone from international waters.

Sounding their noisy horns and confronting the large foreign fleet, the captains of these vessels based in the Port of Mar del Plata, who were on the limits of the Exclusive Economic Zone fishing legally, confronted and threw out some of the jiggers. of Chinese origin that when the afternoon falls, they enter the Argentine waters and at night they seize the resources clandestinely.

In more than one case, because these Asian ships are "totally interconnected", they responded by supporting each other and intimidating the Argentine-flagged fishing vessels. How? Literally pouncing and throwing their ships at them.

In the first place, Captain Pablo Isasa, in command of the Beagle I, his counterpart Stella Maris I, Eduardo Sosa and the Captain of Don Pedro, Alberto Mendoza, gave timely notice to the Prefecture by means of a message from the Avistaje en el Mar System. (Siamar), which forces them to report any type of sighting at sea.

However, the maneuver is already known: when the boats that fish illegally in Argentine waters notice the arrival of any of the Prefectural coastguards through the radars, they simply withdraw. Then they cross those five or six miles that separate them from the limit of the Exclusive Economic Zone in less than ten minutes and the crime vanishes.

The Argentine Naval Prefecture, it should be clarified, cannot detect these vessels because they fish with the AIS turned off (they are only observed being there, out to sea) and their identifying signs covered, in clear violation of current regulations. In addition to that, in recent days a heavy fog affected control tasks in that regard.

The captains filmed the situation, to generate irrefutable documentary evidence of the brave proceeding, as well as the illegal actions of the almost 100 Chinese vessels in violation.

The videos show various situations contemplated by the Maritime Observatory of the Argentine Federal Shrimp Shipowners Association and the Argentine Naval Prefecture, such as the stealthy navigation of the jiggers, with the lights off in some cases, the automatic identification systems (AIS) deactivated for not be detected and identifying signals covered with the same objective.

In addition to destroying the natural resource, the large presence of these foreign jiggers prevents Argentine fishing vessels from operating freely in the area.

After these situations, the Prefecture flew over the affected area with its PA22 aircraft and managed to run all the other Chinese vessels and also photograph them, under the orders of the chief of Mar del Plata, the Mayor Prefect Anibal Moya, who "acted with great predisposition", They remarked from the Observatory, which also highlighted in the same sense the correct actions of the Maritime Traffic Management Center (CGTM) of Mar del Plata, through Prefect Fernández.

After the tensions registered between Thursday and Saturday at the limit of 200 nautical miles, this Sunday, thanks to the actions of the fishing captains and the units of the force, the almost 100 Chinese jiggers were left out of the Economic Zone Exclusive.
