Undersecretary of Marine Affairs attended IV Forum of Technological Innovation

Undersecretary of Marine Affairs of Xunta de Galicia Rosa Quintana stressed the importance of continuing to work to adapt the seafood from Galicia to the reality of the market, highlighting the need to continue meeting the demand and the market change in the face of the challenges of recovery and the differentiation of the products.
In the framework of the opening of the IV Forum for technological innovation and biotechnology for the competitiveness and sustainability of the marine and food sector, the official pointed out the importance of "correctly identifying the Galicia brand and stopping labelling fraud in compliance with the requirements established by the regulation". A goal, she added, in which simplicity on the label should prevail to facilitate consumer understanding, and the popularization of fish and its consumption.
Faced with these challenges, she explained that since 2009 strong bets have been made in the field of processing and marketing. In this way, she recalled that the Board made more than EUR 260 million available to the sector, which meant the revaluation of Galician products by 40 per cent, and support will continue on that path.
Quintana added that the commitment also includes the need to continue adapting Galician products to the reality of the market, analyzing the characteristics of consumers in greater depth and for which she has increased by 40 per cent the budget to improve marketing, with a total of EUR 9 million.
She also informed that she will continue with the improvement works of the traditional and emerging marketing channels, acquiring new logical formulas and prioritizing online purchasing, emphasizing the change in the forms of first sale of seafood products, providing greater competitiveness in the auctions through their digitalization and online access.
Regarding the forum for innovation and technology of National Association of Manufacturers of Canned Fish and Seafood (Anfaco-Cecopesca), Quintana, said it is a reference for the transmission of scientific knowledge to the marine and food industry and for the exhibition of innovative technological practices. On the other hand, she explained, this event explores the development of competitive and sustainable sector and serves as a discussion forum in which science, business and academia to "maintain a beneficial dialogue for the entire value chain of the sector."
In this Forum of Innovation and Technology of Anfaco-Cecopesca will address aspects such as sustainable production, food security, healthy eating, social environment and the latest technology in the food sector.
