The Basque company Astilleros Murueta has been allocated the construction of a live fish carrier for the Norwegian salmon company Alsaker Fjordbruk.
The ship, designed by Salt Ship Design, will be 90.7 metres in length and 18.6 metres in beam, and will hold more than 5,000 cubic metres of capacity.
In addition to the design, Salt will deliver a complete engineering package to Murueta.
Alsaker Fjordbruk is a vertically integrated company based in Onarheim, and is one of Europe's leading aquaculture players in the production of smolt and salmon.
Salt has been working closely with Alsaker for a long time to study the operational requirements of a modern and efficient fish transport vessel.
The ship has several new and innovative design solutions and a high degree of flexibility in relation to the different types of fish handling operations, including lice treatment, said Salt.
It is expected that the new vessel will be delivered in 2020.
