Frozen whiteleg shrimp, imports 57% from Equador

In October 2020, the amount of frozen whiteleg (Litopenaeus vannamei) shrimp imported was 1,159 tons, up 51% from 768 tons a year earlier, while the cumulative amount of imported shrimp was 13,363 tons at the end of October, down 21% from 16,841 tons a year earlier.
Over the past six years (2015-2020), the average import volume in October was 1,341 tons, a 14% decrease from the import volume in October 2020.
A total of 10 major exporters of frozen white-legged shrimp include Ecuador, Peru, Malaysia, Colombia, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia, with cumulative imports for this year reaching 7,602 tons in Ecuador, 3,226 tons in Peru, 1,170 tons in Malaysia, 677 tons in Colombia, 541 tons in Vietnam, 99 tons in Saudi Arabia, 21 tons in Thailand and 13 tons in India.
The average unit price of imports per country was the highest in USD 7.62/kg of Vietnam, USD 7.17/kg in Malaysia, USD 5.30/kg in Colombia, USD 5.85/kg in Indonesia, USD 5.24/kg in Saudi Arabia, and USD 4.00/kg in Myanmar.
In October 2020, frozen white-legged shrimp imports amounted to USD 6.51 million, up 26 % from USD 5.15 million a year earlier.
The average unit price of imports in October was USD 5.61/kg, down 16% from USD 6.71/kg a year earlier.
