Greater structural demands on salmon farming cages
Authorities impose new regulations on salmon farms to prevent sinking and escapes

According to Subpesca, "calculation formulas and safety coefficients that must be applied in determining the quantity and dimensions of the moorings (anchoring of the structures), as well as requirements to guarantee the useful life of the cages and culture nets, will be made. ".

Subpesca's new regulation is based on data gathered in a study by the Fisheries Research Fund (FIPA), the execution of which was entrusted to the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaiso.
The Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Román Zelaya, reported that the new regulations "are part of the continuous review of the regulatory requirements to which the industry must be subjected to maintain high standards of safety and environmental protection, and avoid episodes, such as the cage sinking and fish escape occurred a few weeks ago in Reloncaví ".
Finally, Zelaya highlighted the work and the inspection and sanctioning procedures that Sernapesca and the Superintendency of the Environment are carrying out, in the face of any environmental damage that may have been registered as a result of the sinking of the cages in the center of Blumar.
